Will Artificial Intelligence (AI) destroy Jobs?

NO!!!! AI will not destroy Jobs, but AI will mould the method people work.

Let’s first understand what is ‘Artificial Intelligence (AI)’?

Artificial Intelligence (AI): Artificial Intelligence is the technology in which a machine observes certain patterns and upgrades itself i.e. enhance its own intelligence based on the responses received.

Few examples of Artificial Intelligence (AI):

  1. Text editor: Now Google automatically suggests something to you before you type the entire sentence. Not just in google search but in your SMS draft also.

  2. Google Translator: Google can translate any language nowadays within seconds

  3. Google Maps: It shows you ETA (estimated time arrival) well in advance based on the pattern received and processed

  4. Social Media: Social media like Facebook, YouTube, Netflix understand your behavior and show content accordingly. For example, If you are interested in Cars, bikes then it will show only those content. If you have interest in movies, then it will show you content related to movies.

  5. Voice to Text: You can type by just speaking, use Google doc or Google Keyboard to experience it.

  6. Amazon and Flipkart: It will suggest you new products based on your search patter, age group, locality and other patterns.

There are a lot of other examples which prove the power of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Now, coming back to the question: Will Artificial Intelligence (AI) destroy Jobs?

To understand this in a better way, let’s enter into the time machine and go back to Year 2000!

>>@@Year-2000@@>>

Let’s look at few demanding jobs in YR 2000:

  • Computer operators had huge demand in YR 2000, what about YR 2021?

  • Typist people were working in the private and government sector at a huge scale in YR 2000, what about YR 2021?

  • Taxi services, ticket booking agencies etc. were on the peak in YR 2000, what about YR 2021?

  • Mobile recharge, electricity bill payment collectors, shopping preferences, everything has changed in the last few years.

If you have noticed, even ATM security guards are replaced by foolproof security and technology. Also, the jobs of accountants, diet specialists, and teachers are getting replaced by powerful mobile applications.

Instead of keeping personal assistants, people started using OK Google, Siri and Alexa to manage small tasks.

Google translator already resulted in loss of many translator jobs.

Even eCommerce giants like Amazon already built robotic warehouses where all operations are managed by robots. You can learn more at below video:

Moreover, Amazon is practising drone delivery of products directly to home at any time. This will surely eliminate jobs of delivery boys.

If you observe and think carefully then what is your take away? Answer is simple; ‘Mechanical or super operational jobs are getting replaced by TECHNOLOGY!’

Nowadays you can find some mobile applications that can add better filters to images than photoshop experts, or one can edit the video easily using various mobile applications without having video editing certifications.

So, here I would like to ask you a question: Is your job replaceable by technology? The answer to this question is going to determine your future. If the answer is yes, then you need to work hard on your skills and upgrade as soon as possible. If your answer is no, then you are on the positive side.

Is this change BAD? No way! We all know, ‘Change is the only constant’.

Every change will bring ample opportunities along with it. Just like we have seen people are earning from YouTube, Facebook, Blogs etc. Those who adapt to change quickly and upgrade themselves only those people can have competitive edge. Rest people either have to compromise on pay scale or they need to start looking for another skill set to remain employable.

Only good thing is, the future is going to surprise all of us. We don't know what the future holds for us. May be, We can see flying cars in the next decade, who knows?

Our only role is to understand and adapt the new change, learn new things and finally implement it.

Conclusion:

Ask yourself below questions:

  1. Is your job replaceable this year? (Yes/No)

  2. Is your job replaceable in the next five years? (Yes/No)

  3. Is your job replaceable in the next ten years? (Yes/No)

If your answers are:

Yes, Yes, Yes: Awake! Start working on your skills and upgrade yourself. Learn new technology or management practices.

No, Yes, Yes: You have a little time now. Do some research, connect with career experts, understand what needs to be learned and proceed accordingly.

No, No, Yes: Wonderful, you are on the right track. We can’t predict what the future holds for us in the next ten years. So, be alert and enjoy your journey.

Last thing, if you are a fresher and searching for a job, then please select a career in your domain which will help you to become more competitive and expert a few years down the line.
